FROM THE COACH...

As the 2009 season begins to inch near, I want to encourage all parents to get your 7 & 8 year olds signed up early. Football is a metaphor for life and builds strong character in its participants. We will strive to teach your children that:

1) Practice makes perfect

2) Hard work will be rewarded

3) Actions have consequences

4) You always achieve the most as a TEAM

5) Teams need unselfish leaders

I am asked all the time if football is safe for children as young as 7 & 8? The answer is yes! In three full seasons as a Vikings rookie coach, we have had no serious injuries on our team. Our players have had a lot of fun, learned a tremendous amount about football and racked up an amazing 20 wins vs. only 2 loses. We have a terrific coaching staff that really teaches the game and builds the foundation for Vikings football for years to come.

Vikings have a tradition of hard work and pride that we invite your family to participate in! Let’s have a great 2009 season.

Note: Viking Veteran Parents. I will be contacting you by phone to confirm that your 8 year old will be returning this season. If you do not hear from me by May then
I might not have your current phone number and I encourage you to contact me at 652-9671.

2009 Rookie Rule Changes

The Rookie level has had many changes to their rules for the 2009 season.  We will no longer utilize a scrimmage format.

  • NO SCORE will be kept
  • 4-8 minute quarters
  • 10 minute half time
  • Games will start 90 minutes before Pee-Wee
  • 100 yard field will be used
  • Change of possesion on turnovers
  • Penalties will be called at the point of attack
  • 1 coach on the field the 1st 2 games and then coaches must coach from the sideline
  • There will be no kicking
  • After a score or at the beggining of the halfs the ball will be placed at the 35 yard line
  • A team must declare if they are punting on 4th down at which point the ball will be moved 30 yards and turnedover to the other team
  • The offensive may not gain a 1st down on 4th down by drawing the defense offsides.
  • Clock will stop on injuries, out of bounds, punts, incomplete passes, penalties, and timeouts.

This is a basic rundown of the changes coming in the 2009 Rookie games.  A more complete set of rules will be available soon in the HANDOUT section within the 2009 Cen-Cal By-Laws.
